“ there is honor in all creativity” “dreams are forecast long before the reality of the form”

I have traveled this road many times with my earthly father as we share the day’s experiences. My father has gathered me away from a “make-believe play-land” that he unknowingly created. I call it “men’s work” he calls me “man” a title tagged to me forever. Oddly enough on this day I recall an emotion not that of the typical four year old child that I am, but one of deep long term commitment. My father further engages me in chatter and as parents often ask their children, what do you want to be when you grow up? Quickly and clearly I proclaim an artist. I’m not certain he ever accepted this reply but he certainly supported it ever so quietly and without conscience effort. You see, through exposure to real life experiences he fashioned a method by which I have conducted my journey through the artistic.

I call upon this menu of “everyday education” carefully using them to architect my chosen work and granted talents. This is not unusual in and of it self all beings function in this manner. However, I am convinced I received life’s blueprint on that day and was blessed with the ability to recognize its vision. Simple gratitude pales to the honor that I have been awarded. I will endeavor to create thus returning full tribute to the “higher parent” that touched me on that warm summer afternoon.

Events from each day impact our result and we glean from them negative or positive lessons. The outcome of a particularly negative event could have determined my final destination yet again my set of drawings scrolled to the appropriate page. The next twenty-seven years started a journey of international scope. Numerous clients listed among “The Fortune 500” support my credentials. Again as a matter of course I was not content, designing was not enough. I used my contacts and became involved in the tactics of business strategies, development of marketing concepts and promotion, and ultimately realities of manufacturing,. Through these learning experiences I am proud to have achieved recognition within the restaurant design industry for development of concepts and creation of proprietary products for which I have been granted numerous patents.

I will always respect this “big business period” it did provide a creative outlet and never will I express regret for its occasion. It stands as example of my style, my personality. Dealing with a multitude of complexities, designing and discovering the component parts of a mechanism, establishing placement of a key element. How similar these tasks, how related the compositions. Fitting line, form, function, and material and color all the same practices exercised to union, satisfying the required solution.

I have never forgotten the retort to my father’s inquiry. The simple moniker “artist” defines me, has consumed me on occasion driven me into darkness and doubt. Never have I abandoned though be it sporadic the production of more personal visual statements. With this said I intend to deliver on my word. Line conforms to light and the strength of line in the correct collaboration of materials composes chance or calculated negative and positive. The intrigue of shapes balanced against each other becoming the definition behind the idea the principle, the symbol, the art. I take from my days and give back to that which has been inspiration.
